It's all about the fabric. That's the philosophy of designer, author, and teacher Pamela Mostek. Giant, swirling florals loaded with color and drama are her favorite….and she's always looking for exciting new ways to show them off without slicing and dicing them into little pieces.
Looking back at her history as an artist and quilter, color has always been the most exciting part of the design to Pam. She earned her Bachelors Degree in Art and English, but that was just the beginning. She began to study and work with fibers and delved into weaving, spinning, and fabric surface design. Nearly 20 years ago, Pam arrived at quilting where it all seemed to come together.
After teaching high school art for fifteen years, she took the big plunge and made quilting her full-time career. In 2000, Pam established her own design and publishing company, Making Lemonade Designs. Today she divides her time between teaching, designing for her company, writing books and designing fabrics. She has authored six books published by Martingale & Co. (That Patchwork Place) and two more will be released in 2009 by Patchwork Place.
She teaches and lectures throughout the country and finds time to create her own contemporary art quilts which have been included in a number of national competitions and gallery shows. Her quilts are known for their vibrant colors, bold design, and her use of a variety of fibers and threads.
Pam lives in Cheney, Washington, with her husband and is the proud mother and grandmother of two daughters and four grandchildren.
