Greetings my fabric-loving friends! My, oh, my….It’s been entirely way too long since I last posted here about the Wonderful Folks of the Works. Spring has sprung and summer is here to stay with warm sunshine permeating those endless, carefree days! As the warmth and sunshine return, it’s the perfect segue into introducing my next wonderful employee of The Works. Meet Bonnie! If it weren’t for Bonnie’s warmth and special ‘ray of sunshine’ she lends to the office, things would be a little lackluster around here. From creating the fabric board layouts, to dressing up the front foyer display, and looking after the office plants, Bonnie takes great care in adding her sparkle to The Works.
Like some of the employees here, Bonnie started off at Clothworks working part-time. She was brought in to assist the staff in sending off a big mailing. After only two months of working at Clothworks, the previous owner at the time, David, was so impressed with Bonnie that he offered her a full-time job on the spot! From that point on when she became a full-timer, Bonnie served in multiple positions around the office. Everything from picking fabric orders to supporting the folks in the Design Department where she currently works.
As Bonnie put it, there really is no typical day in the office when it comes to the rhythm of her daily tasks. The atmosphere is up-tempo, creative, and perpetually changing with something new to work on daily. One of Bonnie’s main responsibilities is creating the beautiful layouts of the fabric prints on the sales boards, as well as the fabric layouts for capsets. And if you didn’t know what a capset was, it’s literally a ‘waterfall’ layout of fabric swatches showing off the different patterns in a collection, stapled together with a cardstock header. Another responsibility that Bonnie assumes is checking pattern instructions, as well as kit matrices. With her attention to detail, she ensures that all of the correct fabric numbers and yardages match up in the patterns and matrices so that there are no mistakes when the pattern is released to the consumer. One of her favorite things about working here at Clothworks is working with such a great team of creative people. On her lunch break, you will find Bonnie heading up a team of crossword puzzle-solvers. Beware, though! Bonnie will leave you in the ‘word-dirt’ with her amazing problem-solving skills on those puzzles!!
Bonnie’s talents are not only limited to the crossword puzzle. She is equally skilled in the creative aspects of sewing and quilting. Combined with her eye for color and her ability to make the calculations for quilting patterns, these are just a few reasons she makes a great fit here at Clothworks. In fact, you might recognize her name, as she has designed and written some free patterns used in promotion here at Clothworks. As with many artistic folks, Bonnie has multiple interests in arts and crafts. Knitting and crocheting, along with sketching and photography are just a few more things that keep Bonnie occupied. How does she ever find the time to do all this?!! And if she were stranded on a desert island, the one thing she couldn’t live without would be her sewing kit. Here’s looking at the new Magyver!
