QuiltCon will be the first modern quilt show and conference of it’s kind, and will incorporate a juried quilt show (with cash prizes), vendors, lectures and workshops from top modern quilters, including Denyse Schmidt, Anna Maria Horner, Elizabeth Hartman, Malka Dubrowsky, Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr.
QuiltCon happens February 21st – 24th, 2013. AND, Quilt Show entries will be accepted between August 1st, 2012 and November 30th, 2012.
And, here’s a little more about what Clothworks is doing:
We love modern quilts AND we are also firmly rooted in traditional quilting here at Clothworks, so we thought the best way for us to engage at Quiltcon was to look for quilts that bring a new flavor to traditional styles. Here is how the folks at the Modern Quilt Guild are defining this category for the Quilt Show:
Modern Traditionalism – Quilt design incorporates the use of an identifiable traditional block pattern and modernizes it by applying design elements such as alternate grid work, asymmetry, color, scale, etc.
Do you mess around with traditional blocks sometimes and make them your own? Do you ever make a mistake and then just roll with it? I know I do and that is exactly the type of starting point the Modern Traditionalism category is looking for. AND, we chose the Small Quilt Category because we want to make it as easy as possible for all you busy quilters to create something in time for the show!! To help move things along, we’d like to offer two wonderful quilters the cost of admission to enter their quilts and a little bit of fabric to get inspired. So, start getting your ideas for the Modern Traditionalism Small quilt show going and check back here next week for more details on how to win your quilt registration AND 2 yards of the fabric of your choice! Oh, and did I mention that the cash award for this quilt category is $500? I don’t think I did because I would have remember typing that number!! Woah! That’s a great purse. Can’t wait to talk with you all about what you are creating as the date gets closer.
Note: Small Quilts measure 36 inches or less per side.
Note 2: If you win this and get the registration and fabric, you are free to enter your quilt in ANY of the Quiltcon categories. You are not bound to choose the one we are sponsoring.
