Good morning everyone and welcome to the first of three Blue Morning Mondays! My name is Sally Griswold and I’m the better half of Iron Orchid Designs aka IOD. My sister (the other half) might disagree but one who does not participate in blog posts does not get to object.
Let me just say that I cannot tell you how excited we are to be designing for Clothworks! It’s been a dream of ours for a long time to see our designs in fabric but we never imagined it would be with such a stellar company as Clothworks! Blue Morning is our very first line with Clothworks, but we have been designing in the paper crafting world for many years now and are blessed to also have a line of home decor and art in stores like Bed Bath and Beyond, Kohls, Kirklands, Homegoods, Target etc. If you want to know more about us, feel free to read our bio and see our other collections here, or take a jaunt over to our humble little home on the web here.
On to what you really came here for and that is FABRIC LOVE! To start off our Blue Morning Mondays we have a very special little project as well as a way you can get your hot little hands on some Blue Morning yourselves!
First, the project. I guess you might call this a guest with guests post? I have a couple of friends who are amazingly talented and I wanted to include them in the fun. Besides, many hands make for light work right?
I give you my daughter Phoebe wearing the “Flouncy Tiered Dress” over the “Sweet Petticoat Slip Dress” designed by my friend Kate of Monkey’s Bug Patterns and sewn by another talented friend, Jennifer of Alli’s Auntie Designs. The adorable hat is Jennifer’s addition. Please take a minute to go check out their designs. They’re just absolute loveliness!
As promised, a chance to secure for yourself some of the fabric loveliness you see above. We are giving away 2 sets of the whole Blue Morning line in fat quarters!
Here is how it works. First, post a comment here (on this blog post) letting us know what fun project you plan to make with the Blue Morning fabric if you win or what you love about the fabric. That counts as one enry. To enter again, go like IOD’s facebook page and come back here and post again letting us know you “liked” the page. That counts as another entry… ( each comment is an entry, you’re getting the picture!) to make sure the contest is fair and to differentiate between entries and other comments, please post ENTRY before any qualifying comment. If you just want to comment for fun feel free too, just don’t put ENTRY. For a third entry head on over to the IOD blog and leave a comment there as well! Those comments will be counted seperately for the second set of fat quarters! So many chances to win, we will announce the winners on our next “Blue Morning Monday” post on February 18th! Seriously, doing GIVEAWAYS is the best part of my job. I love it! When I look at a stack of Fat Quarters I just think: POTENTIAL. It’s the same when I have a fresh piece of fabric in my needlework hoop, or a pattern all cut out and ready to sew. Setting up the Clothworks giveaways and knowing that somebody–or in this case, TWO somebodies–are going to win a kitty that is big enough to do a whole quilt top gets me pretty excited. So, here goes another giveaway.
This one is a little different. As the holidays approach, I can’t help but think about gift giving. Here’s how it works. First, I really want to thank Scott Hansen at Blue Nickel Studios for rounding up all the inspiring blogger/sewers that he did for the Bloggers’ Bar Hop Quiltalong. So please start by heading over to his blog and checking out all the blogs that have already posted cool European Taupe 8 infused blocks. They are wonderful. Those new blocks will keep flowing until October 15th, so there’s plenty of time to keep looking AND post your own block(s) on his Flickr page.
Here’s how to enter:
1. Check out Blue Nickel Studios’ quiltalong participants for some fresh ideas on what to make–then think about what you might make with European Taupe 8 Fat Quarters.
2. Go to Facebook and “like” Clothworks if you haven’t already, and share the post from your page so ALL your friends can take advantage of the European Taupe 8 “Treat a Friend” Giveaway. You can even “like” and “share” this post from this page–so you don’t even have to leave! Maybe you even make a deal with a friend that if one of you wins, the other will get the “friend” stack…Just a thought.
3. Head back here and make a comment on our blog about what you might want to make with these fabrics and blammo! You’re done!
4. Contest ends Thursday night, October 11th at Midnight, Pacific Time. I won’t be in on Friday, but our lovely Stephanie will be announcing the winner and letting you all know where those fat quarters are headed.

Boy, that blog post title is a real mouthful!! Last week we announced our sponsorship of Quiltcon and that we would be helping two wonderful quilters get a quilt into the juried quilt show. Well, we can’t help what gets in, but we can give a scholarship for the registration fee + provide fabric. So, here is how you can enter.
1. Take a look at the Quiltcon Quilt Show categories here and give a little thought to whether or not any of those strike your fancy. If one of the categories does AND you think you will complete a quilt and submit a picture of it by November 30, 2012, you’re in good shape. We are sponsoring the Small Quilts Modern Traditionalism Category, but you certainly do not have to choose that category. Please pick any category you like. Also, here are the complete Quiltcon Entry rules.
2. Leave a comment here telling us a little bit about your concept/idea and choose 1-2 fabrics from our website that you will incorporate in your creation(2 yards total). Be sure to make note of the date when they ship because we can only send you fabric that is actually in stock!! Please share this post on Facebook by either clicking on the blog post title, then copying the URL and pasting it into your Facebook status box OR by clicking the SHARE button below this post.
3. We will let this contest run for 4 weeks to give you all plenty of time to think and plan. But, if you’re ready to sign up, go right ahead. Contest closes October 16th at midnight Pacific Time. We’ll pick a random winner and announce it on October 10th. After that we’ll work with each individual on getting fabric sent out AND when the time comes, getting the quilt entered into the quilt show.
4. Then, we’ll track your progress on the blog. Yup, that means we’ll feature you with a few process photos as you go so everyone out there on the internet can keep up with what you are doing. Really that means you’ll be on the hook for sending us 2-3 photos while you’re making your quilt and then sharing photos with us after you enter. And, if you’re a budding (or veteran) designer, we’ll be happy to plug your business here, too!

FACEBOOK HELP!
I had a thought–I read your comments and there were a few folks who were puzzled about how to share the link on Facebook. Would anyone be interested in a little more help on that front? We have some fun Pinterest and Facebook stuff coming up in the calendar and I want to make sure all of you can participate without pulling your hair out. So, leave a comment here if a few short posts about sharing on facebook book would be helpful. If I hear a little more about it, I will definitely include more instructions in future contests because I want to make sure you can all share the giveaways and posts with your community–that is what social media is for afterall. So, if there is anything specific I can do better, let me know and I’ll make a note. And, I will include a little more how-to in the posts from here on out.
