Flying Colors II will be coming to a quilt shop near you in February, and we have some exciting new projects to show you using this dazzling fabric. Cheri Fraaza, an expert applique quilter from Richland, Michigan created these three projects using the Flying Colors II collection. There is a shower curtain, wall hanging and tote. As you will see, Cheri uses an dimensional applique technique to make her projects truly one-of-a-kind. Let’s have a look, shall we?
Cheri was inspired by the first Flying Colors collection by Laurel Burch and began creating dimensional applique butterflies years ago. In addition to creating quilting and applique patterns, Cheri is a Registered Nurse and also teaches quilting classes. Her patterns are available for sale by emailing Cheri at
There are four new fabulous collections out in the quilt shops this month. Here’s a photo/video preview of what you’ll find if you visit your local shop this month and ask what’s new. Enjoy!
First up is the Dinosauria collection by Studio.K. This quilt is our free pattern, which you can download here.
Here is the lovelySuzette by Sue Zipkin. This quilt was an original design created for quilt market.
If you’ve been browsing the magazine shelves lately, you might have come across the latest Quiltmaker and Easy Quilts magazines. We were very excited to see our fabrics on both covers, with fabulous designs from some very talented pattern designers.
What fun! I just loved the scalloped heart borders on the first quilt and the fabric is to-die-for cute. The colors and fabric in the second quilt are fabulous too–and it looks pretty easy to make. Wonderful quilts for an exciting new year!
Christmas is only 3 days away now, and you probably have most if not all of your shopping done…right? No? Well I have just the answer for you last-minute procrastinators! With just 2.5 yards of fabric and about an hour of time, you can have a really nice little blanket for babies, kids or even adults depending on the style of fabric you use. Flannel works best for this blanket since it’s just two layers of fabric. The two layers of flannel creates a lightweight blanket that is surprisingly warm and cozy. So fire up the sewing machine–it’s sewing time!
It’s finally here! I had so many requests for instructions on how to make Susan’s cute triangle hot pads that I just had to make a video showing the technique. These make great last minute holiday gifts, so take a look and give it a try!
The holidays are quickly approaching, so hopefully everyone has their sewing projects near completion…right? Here is a quick review of some holiday projects using Clothworks fabrics–fun!
Our fabulously talented Accounting Assistant, Shirl, made these adorable flannel pajamas for her daughter Ashley (on the left) and granddaughter Autumn (on the right). The fabric is from the Roly Poly Penguin Flannel collection by Barb Tourtillotte. The pattern is Kwik Sew 3553. Cute girls, cute pj’s!
Fun, fun, fun! Are you feeling ho-ho-ho-ish yet? I sure am. The Christmas tree and decorations are up, hot chocolate is being consumed at record rates, festive music is constantly on, and fun holiday outtings are on my calendar. Cookie making begins this weekend. How about you? How do you get in the spirit of the season? What holiday sewing projects have you been working on? We’d love to hear from you!
